Formatting within a Textbox possible?

Hi all.
Have been coming accross this same issue more and more. I am needed to take
in some HTML and print it in a TextBox so that we can render a PDF with
custom formatting.
Up until now, I've written some custom code that replaces known HTML tags
with ascii characters or line breaks, etc. But now I am required to recognize
the BOLD and ITALICS properties of fonts. As far as I know, its imposible to
set the format of text within a textbox (in line), without setting the entire
object's format. Is that correct?
The only thing I've come up with is the idea to create X amount of textboxes
that are split up and used to dynamically change formats of text. This sounds
like a huge thing to try and achieve, and I'm not sure it would even work.
Anyone have ideas, or work arounds? There is no ASCII within a fontset that
represtents the bold version that I could use?
Any idea if RS 2005 will support inline formatting like this?
Thanks,
AndreThe Program Manager for Reporting services has said this is high on the list
of needs for Reporting Services, but this did not make it into SQL 2005, but
will be in the following release...

should be contacted in order to try to get this pushed up...possibly a
hotfix, this is something that is used in a number of reports if not all and
the workaround that was suggested above use to work prior to SP2 which
removes leading spaces therefore does not allow you to line up your "manually
formatted text" correctly. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

they run within their .Net code that strips off the tags but that is not what
I need. For example, the results is one big paragraph after it strips off all
<br>, etc... Is your custom code available for our use? Thanks.

then strips all remaining html out... nothing fancy

Formatting in MRS:

I can't seem to get my formatting to work correctly. I have a very simple
report, yet, when I try to print it, it doesn't break properly. It seems to
print all on one page and I do have a break after my group.
It worked at one point, now, something has changed that makes it not work.
I'm using a letter size piece of paper and I thought that should give me 8.5
inches across the top of the page. When I use the full 8.5 inches, the
report appears too "Wide" in the viewer. When I use less inches, say, 7.5",
it appears too narrow and without page breaks.
Is there something I need to read to better understand what's going on with
the formatting?Where are printing from the browser? If so, you should export to PDF or
TIFF and print from there, those are considered print-ready formats while
HTML is not. SP2 is coming soon and it includes a nifty print utility.

Formatting a textbox

I need to format a phone number parameter the user enters. Currently
when I print the parameter entered it displays like this ##########. I
want to format it to look like ###-###-####. Does anyone have any
ideas for making it look like that?E,
RS has a Custom Formatting built in where you can type in ###-###-####
for the Format.
But for phone Numbers the DB probably returns it as a string. You must
first convert it to a Number... a LONG in this case.
So go to report Properties go to Custom Code and put this in there:
Public Function convertToIntegerNow(tempVar2 As String)
convertToIntegerNow= CLng(tempVar2)
End Function
in the cell type in
=Code.convertToIntegerNow(Fields!Phone_Field_name.Value)
Then right click on the cell go to properties, change the format of the
cell to ###-###-####
Hope this helps
regards,
Stas K.

Formatting a Text box

I need to format a phone number parameter the user enters. Currently
when I print the parameter it displays like this ##########.
I want to format it to look like ###-###-####.
It can't be done with SQL, it must be done in the VB of that textbox.
Does anyone have any ideas' It would save me from pulling my last
hair out!!Down and Dirty, but:
=Mid(Fields!homephone.Value,1,3) & "-" & Mid(Fields!homephone.Value,4,3) &
"-" & Mid(Fields!homephone.Value,7,4)
You can substitute the Parameter value as Parameters!PHNumber.Value in place
of Fields!homephone.Value if they are entering the phone number in the
parameter box.

Just select the cell you want to display with format right click and click
properties and select Format tab on the format field select "..." and click
custom and type "###-####"

formatted outputs

Hi,
Is there a way to get stored procedure texts out in a formatted way
like defncopy in Sybase??? The way they print it out really
sucks.........
Regards
dba_sybaseYou can Use Enterprise manager to script them in formatted way .. unless you really not able to use Em .. or try using

exec sp_helptext 'sp_name'|||Thanks AAshu. I already knew that but it seems that the third pary application created the SP as a single line. So I couldnot find a way to formatt them other than formatting them by hand.

Thanks

Jaideep|||Try this trick for a select statement (not updates or deletes!):

Copy your line to the clipboard.
Open select a table (any table) in your database in Enterprise Manager, right click, and select show all rows (or show data, or whatever).
When the window opens up and displays the data, look for an icon near the top left that will display the SQL code applied (likely just a select from statement),
Replace the SQL Statement with what you have on the clipboard and requery by clicking the red "!" icon.
EM should reformat your code before displaying the results. If it doesn't, try adding a dummy table to the display and then removing it.

Sorry if this isn't step-by-step clear, but I'm going from memory.

Personally, I don't like the way EM formats statements, so I usually do some touch-up afterward, but its better than one long line of code.

There is no command-line utility, but there are scripting facilities
both in Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager.

In QA click F8 to get an Object Brower. Right-click a procedure and you
find the scripting option. In EM, right-click a database and pick
All Tasks and then Generate SQL Scripts.

Formating Reports To Print

How can I fixa report that displays correctly on the web page (Report
manager) but when I either print or convert to .pdf, some of the text boxes
shifts to a second and maybe a third ?
The report is actualy smaller than a regular letter page.
Any ideas ?You will have to build the report to render as a pdf. In doing so the
web formatting may look out of allignment but the pdf file will look
right. It is very difficult to get them both to look good.
Also, sometimes placing rectangles behind your report items will
prevent them from going outside the report boundries.
Another thing to check is to make sure the "report" page size and
"body" size properties are matching or similar (ie. set the report page
size to 11 x 8.5 for a Landscape print and set the body size to 10.75 x
8 to fit within the page boundries) and only work with in these
boundries. Take some time to try out different margin settings as
well. Work with it a little and usually you can come up with something
that works in the web and pdf worlds.
Let me know how it goes!

format print range when converted to Excel?

I have a report that the user can print right from the RS site on three pages (each page one page wide). However, when I have the server email the report as an attachment in Excel; Excel tries to print it on four pages with one of the pages spilling over into the fourth page.

How can I get Excel to format the print version just as I have on the RS site?

I have had the same problem. It almost seems that anything that I export to excel looks like it grows when it is printed in excel. I posted a question referring to that and never got an answer.|||

Anyone else?

Is there a way to format the report to print at 80% in Excel without the user having to make the change in Excel?

I also have this problem. I have tried to minimize tables, move around objects, etc. but nothing works. The report looks good in direct print and export to other formats but when it comes to print from the exported excel report it is always to wide.

Has anyone got a solution or work around for this problem?

Thanks

I hope that Microsoft can fix this in a future release. I get many complaints about this. My users want to print from Excel without intervention and I cannot find a work around for this.
