Formatting NoRows text

Hi,
I'm using a subreport that displays a NoRows message. Is there any way to
format it so that the NoRows message/textbox is different from the normal
subreport (i.e. big and red and ugly so people will notice that their data is
incomplete). Is there a NoRows=True property or something that I can
reference from the font colour expressions?
- DebThe NoRows property derives its style properties from the Subreport report
item.

Format for a bigint parameter in Raiserror

Having a small problem with RAISERROR that I've isolated to a small code sample:

The objective is to have the message string in Raiserror correctly report the value of a parameter that is a bigint. The following extract shows the problem:

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[pr_Test]

@.SomeNumber bigint

AS

BEGIN

SET NOCOUNT ON;

RAISERROR('Test Error Number: %d.',16,1,@.SomeNumber)

END

As written, when the procedure is executed with the value 1 passed in the @.SomeNumber parameter, the result is:

Msg 2786, Level 16, State 1, Procedure pr_Test, Line 19

The data type of substitution parameter 1 does not match the expected type of the format specification.

If the datatype for @.SomeNumber is changed to int, then the procedure executes correctly and reports 'Test Error Number: 1'. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Regards,

Flavelle

There seems to a limitation with the numeric data type while using the Raiserror statement.

My suggestion is to cast the bigint to a varchar Here is the modified code block

alter PROCEDURE [dbo].[pr_Test]

@.SomeNumber BIGINT

AS

BEGIN

DECLARE @.NewNumber VARCHAR(1000)

SET @.NewNumber=CAST(@.SomeNumber AS VARCHAR(100))

SET NOCOUNT ON;

RAISERROR('Test Error Number: %s',16,1, @.NewNumber)

END

|||

Have you looked at the definition for RAISERROR in Books Online? It says bigint is not a valid datatype for that parameter.

argument

Is the parameters used in the substitution for variables defined in msg_str or the message corresponding to msg_id. There can be 0 or more substitution parameters; however, the total number of substitution parameters cannot exceed 20. Each substitution parameter can be a local variable or any of these data types: int1, int2, int4, char, varchar, binary, or varbinary. No other data types are supported.

|||yes, i misread your post, and yes, casting/converting to a varchar datatype is a simple fix/workaround.|||

My thanks to you both - brokenrulz for the solution to the problem and Greg for reminding me that I have to remember to read the ENTIRE help file. Your reference to the supported datatypes for the parameters is deeply buried within the help topic.

Flavelle

Hello,

Help files have been updated on July 2006 (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178592.aspx) and it says "To convert a value to the Transact-SQL bigint data type, specify %I64d" (the letter before 64 begin a capital i).

Not need to cast the bigint into an nvarchar. I tested under SQL 2005 + SP (version 9.00.3054.00) and it works great.

i have noticed within the objectdatasource wizard, that something called profile is there, and this is where you specify the cookies, sessions etc. But i dont know where to start with this. Can anyone help?

thanks

Your SQL problem could be a number of things.

You can try things like right clicking on your connection to the database inside VS2005 express and choosing close connection to see if maybe you're taking up the only connection, or you can create a new user for your sql express file and then change your connection string to use that instead of (presumably) integrated security.

Do you have SQL server studio express, with it you can probably get a better handle on your SQL express installation, including setting up users/passwords.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=82afbd59-57a4-455e-a2d6-1d4c98d40f6e&DisplayLang=en

In regards to your cookies, by default they are enabled, but the forms authentication timeout defaults to 0 seconds, meaning that as soon as you close your browser it will go away. If you add/change your timeout value like I've done below, you'll have cookies able to last for as long as you set it (I choose 20160 for 2 weeks).

|||Very strange, are you using .net 2.0 or 1.1? Are you testing your project using the internal VS2005 web server or IIS?|||visual web developer express, iis|||

Ok,Its possible your web application in IIS isn't set to asp.net 2.0.

In IIS, if you right click on the site and choose properties, you should see an ASP.NET tab. You should make sure its set to ASP.NET version 2.0.50727

If you're using IIS on your local box then that should be it. If you're using IIS on a web server, then you might have multiple web applications. If you "do" have multiple web applications on an external web server inside of IIS, you have to make sure that your 2.0 apps aren't sharing the same Application_pool with a 1.1 application. I can give you more info once I get a better handle on what you're doing.

Thanks

yes i am using the latest version of asp.net.

using iis web server on my local box - http//localhost.

On your last point, this may be the case, as i have created more than one virtual directory in vwd.

ACK! I apologize, I didn't notice at first that you left off the S from forms. its meant to be.

<

formsname=".ASPXAUTH"loginUrl="login.aspx"defaultUrl="default.aspx"protection="All"timeout="20160"path="/"requireSSL="false"slidingExpiration="true"cookieless="UseDeviceProfile"domain=""enableCrossAppRedirects="false">

<

credentialspasswordFormat="SHA1"/>

</

forms>

I think it was one of those things where it was "so" close to being right I couldn't immediately notice the problem. Hopefully that helps.
